An Animated Feature is Streaming on Sky: Children of the Light

Something big is happening Sky: Children of the Light. Developer thatgamecompany is launching a limited and in-game screening of a wordless animated feature. It's titled as The Two Embers: Part One and this first part invites everyone to learn the long-awaited origin story of Sky.

The Two Embers is told in two parts and follows the parallel journeys of two children. While they've been separated by time, their fates have become deeply intertwined. Together it is their choices that shape the destiny of a crumbling kingdom.

As mentioned, The Two Embers: Part One is told without dialogue. It follows the story of an orphaned child along with a wounded manatee as they navigate a world that's unraveling under the threat of darkness. The heartfelt emotion transcends language and cultural boundaries and is sure to resonate with audiences of all ages. That's because it explores universal themes of grief, anger, and the power of kindness.

The Two Embers: Part One preview screenings are going to be spread across four weekly chapters starting July 21. It's going to stream inside Sky: Children of the Light. Check out the official trailer here.

In a statement, thatgamecompany CEO and Executive Jenova Chen shared that this is a "story that stays with you."

The Two Embers is crafted in the signature style of the studio. It’s visually stunning, emotionally resonant, and more importantly, grounded in human connection. There’s no question that this may well be the most ambitious transmedia storytelling endeavor of the studio to date.

Each chapter of the animated feature is going to be accompanied by new in-game content that’s been designed to deepen the emotional and narrative resonance of the film through exploration and play.

Unlike traditional video game adaptations, The Two Embers and Sky exist simultaneously, enriching the other in a living, breathing world built to be experienced together.

A Theater Experience

According to the studio, a lot of try to expand their universes through Hollywood adaptations. However, for them it's all about coming up with "meaningful shared experiences" that foster that important connection between players.

This is not the first time the studio has done. It was first demonstrated during the AURORA concert. This technology was able to connect more than 10,000 players on a single server. It has earned Sky: Children of the Light two Guinness World Records.
